At KKFS, our Elementary School program provides a strong academic foundation through the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) while nurturing the whole child. Guided by our school motto, Explore, Reflect, Apply, students are encouraged to approach learning with curiosity, think deeply about their learning experiences, and use their skills with purpose in real-world applications. Our eight Character Traits are woven into instruction to help students grow as mindful, compassionate, and responsible individuals. Learning is further enriched by our Schoolwide Learning Outcomes (SLOs), critical thinking, communication, creativity, technology, mindfulness, and cultural empathy, ensuring that every child develops the knowledge, skills, and values needed to thrive in a diverse global community.

Elementary School Student Stories – Chloe (Kindergarten)
What is your favorite part of school?
Chloe’s favorite part of school is playing with Legos with her friend Chrissie. She became friends with her on the first day of school because she thought she looked kind of cute, so she said to her, “Let’s be friends.” Now they are friends and they play together every day.
What do you like the most about all the people at our school?
What Chloe likes most about the people at our school is a Grade 12 student named Eileen. She plays with Chloe at the High School volleyball practices and other school events. She also likes her teacher, Mr. Wilson, because he is sometimes silly and likes to play around, but just a little bit. Her music teacher also helps her draw her favorite characters. She really likes how everyone at our school from her classmates, to her high school friends, to her teachers, are all just really nice.
Elementary School Student Stories – Amina (Grade 5)
What is your favorite part of the school day and why?
My favorite part of the school day is actually in the morning. Well, because in the morning, we get to do nothing! And it’s actually pretty fun. I get to play cards and games, and other stuff like that with my classmates. And also, we get to chill with our friends and get help with our homework from our teacher. It’s also really fun because I love how people are just so nice. Overall, the sense of community is really great.
What do you like most about our school community?
So, about our school community, the people are just really kind and generous. For example, the librarian doesn’t get angry when some students misbehave; he just says to the students, please clean it up nicely with a calm and kind voice. The students listen, and they put the books back on the shelf. Also, my homeroom teacher is really kind because he understands what’s happening between us. For example, when we disagree, he’s really kind because he explains why we did that and helps us make up with each other. Then, we become friends again. Also, the math questions, if you’re struggling with the math questions, he can help you. We try to do word problems, but they’re sometimes hard to understand. Our teacher takes the time to help us understand, and also, he knows a lot about math. So overall, it’s really kind out there in the KKFS community.
