Overview

The High School math program at KKFS equips students with the advanced skills and analytical tools needed for success in higher education and beyond, guided by the CCSS. Offering a progression through Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus, as well as opportunities for AP-level coursework, the program emphasizes modeling, data analysis, and logical reasoning. Students are encouraged to apply their mathematical knowledge to complex, real-world problems, preparing them for STEM fields, global citizenship, and lifelong problem-solving. By the end of high school, students should be able to demonstrate mastery of the school’s SLOs in Mathematics:

Creativity

  • Developing multiple strategies to solve problems
  • Exploring patterns and relationships in mathematics
  • Designing mathematical models to represent real-world situations

Communication

  • Explaining mathematical reasoning clearly using appropriate vocabulary and notation
  • Interpreting and presenting data using charts, graphs, and tables
  • Collaborating with peers to solve complex problems and share solutions
  • Writing mathematical justifications and proofs

Critical Thinking

  • Analyzing and breaking down complex problems into manageable parts
  • Evaluating the validity of mathematical arguments and solutions
  • Applying logical reasoning to unfamiliar problems
  • Making decisions based on quantitative evidence

Technology

  • Using graphing calculators, software, and online tools to visualize and solve problems
  • Employing spreadsheets and statistical programs to analyze data
  • Utilizing technology to communicate mathematical ideas effectively

Culturally Empathetic and Mindful

  • Considering how mathematics is applied in different cultural and social contexts
  • Recognizing the ethical use of data, statistics, and algorithms
  • Valuing diverse approaches and contributions to mathematical thought
  • Reflecting on the role of mathematics in solving global and societal challenges
