Overview
At KKFS, K-5 students begin to develop an understanding of three main disciplines of science: physical science; life science; earth science. In the lower grades, students begin by recognizing patterns and formulating answers to questions about the world around them. Students observe patterns in natural phenomena and are encouraged to ask questions that drive their curiosity and exploration. This approach lays the groundwork for deeper scientific inquiry, aligning with NGSS by fostering early critical thinking and problem-solving skills through hands-on activities and guided investigations. By the end of fifth grade, students should be able to demonstrate grade-appropriate proficiency in gathering, describing, and using information about the natural and designed world(s). By the end of Elementary School, students should be able to demonstrate mastery of the school’s SLOs in Science.
